About Fitzgerald Furniture
In September of 1929, Bryan and Jennie Fitzgerald moved to Ness City. Shortly after their arrival, Mr. Bovard asked Bryan to work for him in the Bovard Furniture Store. In 1942 Bryan purchased the furniture store. The store itself was in the north half of its present location and Miner’s Hardware was in the south half. Bryan and Jennie later bought the south half and combined the two buildings into one store, Fitzgerald Furniture.
During World War II merchandise was hard to get so Bryan took the train to Kansas City and personally went to the manufacturers and distributors and practically begged for furniture and appliances. In 1961, Joel, Bryan’s son came on board to work at the furniture store and in 1982 Joel bought the building just north of the furniture store and expanded again, remodeling all three buildings into our current location. In 2000, Joel II began full time work at Fitzgerald Furniture to carry on the ideals and commitment of Bryan and Joel.
